Wednesday Season 2 Introduces Billie Piper as Enigmatic Music Mentor
Netflix has shared an official first look at Billie Piper for the upcoming season 2 of Wednesday, the gothic comedy starring Jenna Ortega. The 42-year-old actress plays Isadora Capri, a mysterious new character described as “Nevermore’s head of music.”
Billie Piper takes on the role of Isadora Capri in Wednesday’s Season 2.
A former child prodigy, Isadora Capri has a “particular interest” in Wednesday’s musical abilities. She is also a teacher at Nevermore and guides werewolf student Enid Sinclair, played by returning series regular Emma Myers.
Billie Piper is best known for playing Brona Croft/The Bride of Frankenstein in Penny Dreadful, but she has a long history with the gothic and supernatural. Wednesday’s Season 1 trailer was dropped by Netflix alongside major news about the fate of the record-breaking series.
Wednesday launched in November 2022 and immediately became a global sensation. A total of 252 million viewers from around the world have watched the show, making it Netflix’s largest English-language series of all time. The series was renewed for a second season in January 2023 and, as we can now see, it will make its return in August of this year.
Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams.
Wednesday is a darker spin on the Addams Family universe. The series focuses on 22-year-old Wednesday as she moves to Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for the supernatural and the weird. The series is a perfect mix of horror, comedy, and angsty teenage tropes and was a hit with viewers and critics, earning Emmy nominations and a large cult following.
Wednesday Season 3 Officially Renewed, Spin-Off Coming
Netflix not only released a first look at Billie Piper as Wednesday’s new addition, but they also shared even more information on the record-breaking show. Wednesday has officially been renewed for a third season.
But the news doesn’t end there. A spin-off has also been in the works for a while now and is “moving forward” as per reports from The Hollywood Reporter. But no specific information was given as co-creator Alfred Gough teases, “It’s something we’re noodling; there are other characters we can look at.”
Fans were not shy to share their joy on social media when it came to the announcement of season 3 and the spin-off. Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia, confirmed the renewal of season 3 in an Instagram post of her own: “When Wednesday comes, a better day. Wednesday season three. It’s official… we shall return.” Fans commented with messages like, “And for many more seasons,” and “I can’t wait to see the second season, I’m waiting for it with great curiosity … and the third is already official, fantastic news!”
Some comments touched on how soon season 3 filming can start, as fans are not keen to wait long again, with one fan simply writing, “I’ll be gripping the sheets in agony waiting, but please… don’t let us wait three years again.”
Tim Burton, 66, will continue to return as executive producer and director for some episodes. He was most recently working with Ortega on Beetlejuice, which is the upcoming sequel to the 1988 cult classic.
Season 2 also sees a host of other well-known actors joining the cast, including Lady Gaga, Steve Buscemi, Joanna Lumley, and Thandie Newton. Returning regulars are Gwendoline Christie as headteacher Larissa Weems and Luis Guzmán as Wednesday’s father, Gomez Addams.
Ortega herself has even taken a role behind the scenes as a producer on the show. Last year, there was some drama with an interview she did for Brittany T. Campbell’s “Last Gasp” podcast, in which Ortega mentioned “changing lines” and “had to put my foot down” because things were not consistent with Wednesday’s character. Director Tim Burton soon spoke out in her defense, saying that her words had been taken out of context. Co-creator Alfred Gough has also since commented on the topic of Ortega’s new producer title. He stated that it was only a natural step for Ortega, who has been involved with every aspect of the production as she has been sharing opinions and taking part in a lot of the process, which makes her an unofficial producer already.
Joanna Lumley is one of the new additions to the cast for season 2.
Joanna Lumley was very excited to have been invited to be a part of the world that Wednesday has created and had this to say: “There’s always something thrilling about working for Tim Burton. His whole mind takes him to a different world, and the world that they’ve created here for Wednesday and Nevermore and the family is just intoxicating.”
Billie Piper’s debut appearance in Wednesday’s Season 2 will soon be released, but in the meantime, fans will have to be content with an official first look, a confirmed third season, and even news about a spin-off in the works.
