Strange New Worlds Season 3 Trailer Teases Gorn Showdown
Season 2 ended with the U.S.S. Enterprise coming under attack by the Gorn during an invasion of a Federation colony world. Several members of the Enterprise crew, along with some of the planet’s other inhabitants, were captured and held as hostages by the Gorn, while Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the rest of the crew had to make a quick decision. Should they follow Starfleet orders and leave, or act against them in an attempt to rescue their crew? Of course, Pike opts for the latter, and we are given an action-packed finale that will be continued directly in Season 3.
Paramount+ has finally released the first official trailer for Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, following up on a brief teaser that had been released back in April. It will premiere on July 17, 2025, and as always, new episodes will be added every Thursday. For the previous season, some footage was shown at New York City Comic-Con in October of last year, but the first trailer is the first proper look fans have been given. It picks up directly from the end of Season 2, showing the Enterprise still at war with the Gorn in another of the series’ signature large-scale space battles.
Season 3 will, of course, see the Enterprise crew coming to a resolution with the Gorn, but this will not be the only new challenge they will be faced with in Season 3. The series will be introducing a new antagonistic presence, who will test them, force them to grow, and challenge their friendship, commitment, and principles in more ways than one.
Season 3 will also continue to mix things up with its episodic adventures, as has been the case for Strange New Worlds to date. The series has already featured episodes dealing with more traditional themes that Star Trek has become synonymous with, as well as treading new ground by telling its own unique stories. The series has also been teasing some new genres, and this is set to continue in Season 3 with several episodes that will be dealing with topics such as faith, redemption, obligation, love, romance, and loyalty. But that’s not all—according to Paramount+, fans can also expect “shifts in genre” not seen in any previous Trek series.
The cast of Strange New Worlds will, of course, be back for Season 3, with the main and recurring cast all returning to reprise their roles. The most notable of the additions this season is Cillian O’Sullivan, who will be joining the cast in the role of Dr. Roger Korby. Korby is a known character from the original Star Trek series, who was played by Michael Strong. In the Strange New Worlds timeline, he is a decorated archaeologist who specializes in medical archaeology and the long-lost fiancé of Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush). Korby was introduced to the series already, and fans got a first look at O’Sullivan in the role in a deleted scene from Season 2, which has since been added to YouTube as part of the “deleted scenes and outtakes” collection. Korby’s return is sure to cause a ripple effect, especially with Chapel now in a relationship with Spock (Ethan Peck).
Season 3 will also see Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt joining the main cast for guest star roles, with the two comedians each expected to have a significant impact on the series. The teaser trailer released in April hinted at some of this genre mixing, with the Season 3 trailer echoing that, and showing some of the crew of the Enterprise having fun, spending time off-duty with each other, even handling some budding romance.
While there are several potential storylines alluded to in the new trailer, one scene in particular stood out as something to keep an eye on. Midway through the trailer, the character of James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) is seen sitting in the captain’s chair of the Enterprise, during a brief stop for some crew members, as they are on their way to a “meeting”. Pike is heard telling him, “The choices you make in that chair, they are yours to make and yours to live with”. In the Star Trek timeline, this was a speech that was later used by Spock when he gave Kirk the captaincy of the Enterprise during a critical moment. Kirk is sure to have an important part to play this season, even if it is brief, but the “training” that he will no doubt receive this season, as well as in this moment, will be a key factor in his eventual taking on the Enterprise.
The preview ends with a small comedic moment that sees the series briefly dip into humor, which is rare for the series. Spock and Oswalt’s Vulcan can be seen mid “high five” between the two, in which Spock first successfully makes contact with his hand, before, at the second request of going “down low” from the Vulcan, Spock wins, and he goes with “too slow”.
Season 3 Premiere Date and Release Schedule
Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will debut on Paramount+ on July 17, 2025, with new episodes to be released weekly on Thursday. Season 3 will be airing from July 17 until September 11, 2025, for a total of ten new episodes.
Season 4 has already been renewed, following the announcement in December last year, and the upcoming third season will continue to expand the universe that has been set by Season 1 and Season 2. For Trek fans both old and new, Strange New Worlds is ritting its stride and becoming more than just a live-action successor to the animated series.
