Pat Sajak Steps Out for Public Event in Los Angeles
Pat Sajak, the longtime "Wheel of Fortune" game show host, was seen making a rare public appearance in Los Angeles following his retirement from the iconic show. The 79-year-old attended the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony to help honor Air Supply’s Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock as they received their star.
Celebrating Air Supply at the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The event took place on Hollywood Boulevard, where Sajak donned a gray suit with a pink shirt and was photographed alongside the members of Air Supply. He delivered a speech at the ceremony, injecting his well-known wit and charm into the moment. Sajak humorously remarked about "longevity," saying, "I did my little show for over 40 years." He shared, "I understand the challenge of trying not to wear out your welcome," noting the duo’s more than 50 years entertaining sold-out crowds worldwide.
He also kept the mood light by joking that he had considered getting a large Air Supply logo tattooed on his chest, but decided against it so it wouldn't distract from his nipple ring, earning laughter from the crowd.
Reflecting on a Storied Television Career
Pat Sajak’s speech at the air supply ceremony reflected on his own extensive television career and host longevity. Having honed his comic skills as the face of both "Wheel of Fortune" and "Celebrity Wheel of Fortune," Sajak hosted the beloved game show for 41 years before retiring in 2024. After stepping away, he handed over the hosting role to Ryan Seacrest.
Sajak became associated with "Wheel of Fortune" beginning in 1981, when he succeeded Chuck Woolery as host of the daytime version. He continued hosting the nighttime version—where he became best known—starting in 1983 and remained with the show until his recent retirement.
Life After 'Wheel of Fortune': Retirement Update
Following his departure from television, Sajak gave fans a glimpse into his post retirement life. He starred in the play "Prescription: Murder" at The Hawaii Theatre in Honolulu from July 31 to August 10, 2025. In June, he updated fans with a social media video from Hawaii, appearing relaxed by a pool with palm trees and the ocean in the background. Joking with viewers, Sajak said, "I moved here to Montana, and everything is going just great. So, I just want to say hello. You’ll have to excuse me, I have some cattle to attend to."
Reflecting on the Offer to Host 'Wheel of Fortune'
In a June 2024 Instagram video, Sajak revealed that he almost turned down the opportunity to host "Wheel of Fortune." He reminisced, "‘Wheel of Fortune’ had been on the air for seven years in daytime on NBC, and the host was leaving, and they needed a new host, and he asked if I was interested. And I swear, the first thought was ‘Yes there are three R’s' is not exactly a career mover. Yeah, I know, shows you what I know."
With his distinctive humor and grace, Sajak acknowledged the unpredictable nature of a television career, and how years later "Wheel of Fortune" would become such a defining part of his life in the entertainment industry.
Legacy in the Entertainment Industry
Pat Sajak’s rare public appearance, his playful remarks at the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and continued updates post retirement highlight his enduring connection with fans and the entertainment industry. From his early career in Los Angeles local TV to a four-decade run as a game show host, Sajak’s story is one of longevity and continued relevance in the world of television and celebrity appearances.
